“There’s a small possibility the raft will capsize and you will all fall into the water, so I hope you all know how to swim!” Today was rest day during clinic week. My family opted to join half of the group for class 3 white water rafting. Not sure how the Ecuadorians classify their rapids, but I’m pretty sure I didn’t sign any waiver. After we all took a swim (some of us voluntarily) in the water that was just about as cold as our showers back at the cabins, we stopped for a lunch break under the shade of guava trees on the nearest beach. In total, we covered 27 km of the Napo River, rafting along villages with children playing in the sand, their parents nearby panning for gold on the rocky river banks. We stopped near the end of our rafting trip to stand under a waterfall and all jumped into the river. Of course the day was not complete without a stop in Misahuali on the way back to Timmy base camp, where Dad’s popcorn was stolen out of his hands by the monkeys who live in the city center. Today was a great break from clinic, but back to work tomorrow! -Lena11910710_430035733851542_137309770_n
